Program Overview
We are excited to announce Data Science for Good, a free and guided virtual workshop presented in partnership between the University of San Diego’s Applied Data Science Master’s Program and San Diego Tech Hub. The free 3-part, 90-minute virtual workshop series will develop data science skills, help advance your career, and drive social change.
Data science is the study of data to gain insights and knowledge and is one of the fastest growing areas of knowledge that can have an impact on your career and drive business results. Though it may seem challenging, expertise is within grasp of anyone with the desire for personal and professional growth.
USD’s expert professors and instructors will work with you to develop new skillsets with real-world case studies, receive real-time feedback from instructors, and help you contribute insights using data sets that can drive social change. Don’t worry if you are a beginner, there is no requirement for previous programming experience as all the foundational languages (Python, R), skills, and tools (Tableau) will be taught during the workshops. Following completion, you will receive a certificate of completion to be included on your resume.

Here’s more of what to expect
Workshop 1
In workshop 1, we will give a brief overview of applied data science and the workshops that will come. It will start with an introduction to “Storytelling with data”, centered around the language of Python. The instructors will be taking the attendees through case studies, including the social data set, to brief the team on what we intend to accomplish. We will then provide a beginners overview of language fundamentals, data set preparation, and an analysis exercise.
