The Hub

Why is it important?

2020 has been a challenging year for our community, which is why more than ever we are looking for new and innovative ways to support San Diego region. Over the past year, we’ve moved our meetings virtual, created new workshop series, and begun developing products to further connect our community.

With the launch of our new platform The Hub, we want to provide a community where others can follow their passions, make a social impact, and encourage others to pay it forward. These three principles help create a self-sustaining ecosystem and invites us to ask the question, “How can I help?”. Check out the video below to learn how YOU have the power the make a difference.

I am living proof of how on how one selfless act started a chain reaction of positivity. I invite you to read about my life changing moment and how that became one of the motivating factors for starting San Diego Tech Hub.

What is it?

The Hub is our new online community aimed at bringing together socially conscious businesses, non-profits, educators, students, and professionals looking to create opportunities for those that need a helping hand.

In addition, we want to create a centralized place to help connect, inform, and empower our SDTH Conduits, by leveraging our collective network. This new community will offer:

  • Job boards, volunteer opportunities, and resources to keep you up to date on the latest happenings within our region.
  • Access to community-driven workshop and course materials giving you the edge in elevating your careers.
  • Create groups, events, and connect with like-minded Conduits looking to support each other.

The best part about this, it is 100% FREE.

Want to know more about The Hub? Check out the video below where we walk through the community features and show the power of what the platform offers.

Ways to Get Involved

Right now we are in Beta and doing a soft launch to get early feedback from the community. To help during this stage, we are looking for Conduit Ambassadors to join “The Hub” and be active participants by sharing their expertise, resources, services, interesting articles, posts, volunteer and job opportunities on the community platform.

In addition, we have defined four other roles to help you identify how best to get plugged-in based on your interest. Check out the definitions below to see how you can make a difference.

Topics let you organize Quick Posts, Articles, Questions, Polls, and Events into categories that can be easily searched and filtered.  Our beta launch will include the 8 topics below:

  • News Media
  • Introduce Yourself
  • Job Board
  • Kudos Accolades
  • Volunteering Help
  • Show Tell
  • We Got Jokes
  • Entrepreneurs Club

Help Needed: Ensure the topics’ content is not stale by posting relevant information to keep the community engaged.

Time Commitment: Post 3 or more times a week

Is this the right role for you?:  This opportunity is right for you if you are someone that loves to post articles that others might find interesting, are skilled at rallying people together to discuss an interesting topic, or just want to share knowledge about how awesome San Diego is.

Groups function as sub-groups in our community that have their own branding, members, topics, articles, polls, questions, and events.  Groups are based on specialized areas of interest.  Examples might be:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Cyber Security
  • Recruitment
  • Data Science
  • Design
  • Vets in Tech
  • Etc…

Help Needed: Become a leader of a group sharing knowledge and resources that will help grow and benefit the SDTH community.

Time Commitment: Engage with the community daily sharing articles, questions, training materials, or job opportunities specific to your subject.

Is this the right opportunity for you?:  This opportunity is right for you if you have a passion for a specific interest or are an expert in a specific domain.  Running a group is a great way to organize like-minded individuals around a specific cause helping to create opportunities for people to network.

Courses provide the ability to inform and empower our Conduit community.  There are 3 types of courses that can be created:

  • A “Content-Only” Course: You can offer just Course Content and materials
  • A Course with a Dedicated Community: This is the default Course you create. It has both the Table of Contents (course materials) and Activity Feed (course community)
  • A “Live” Course: This option puts the Activity Feed (course community) front and center. It’s a great option for creating a Course live with a small group of conduits, adding Course materials as you go.

Help Needed: If you have presentations, videos, or other educational content that our conduits could learn from, we would love to add it to our community library.

Time Commitment: Time required to put together and organize the materials. One-time setup to upload the materials on the platform.  Note you can upload as many courses as you like.

Is this the right opportunity for you?  This opportunity is right for you if you are a domain expert or want to establish yourself as a domain expert.  This is a great way to share your knowledge and build a following within the community.

Interested in exploring sponsorship opportunities?  Your support will fund things like scholarships, virtual and social distancing events, and programs helping to keep the platform and the services we offer FREE for our Conduit community.

Help Needed: Contact us for details.

Time Commitment: None.

Is this the right opportunity for you? This opportunity is right for you if you want to give a monetary gift in exchange to be featured as a key sponsor for a given topic, group, or specialized event.  This is a great way to support the community by helping to keep our platform and services free for our Conduits.
